Shop St. Boniface IV
Boniface IV A doctor's son from L'Aquila, Pope/Saint Boniface IV was deacon and treasurer to St. Gregory the Great, and like his mentor, he turned his house into a monastery. Boniface was elected pope in late 607 but was not enthroned until September, 608, when his election was confirmed by Emperor Phocas. The pope received from the emperor the Pantheon, which Boniface made into a church devoted to the Mother of God and the martyrs. He also moved relics from the catacombs into his new temple. St. Columbanus of Bobbio rebuked the pope in 613 for inciting a schism in northern Italy with his opposition to the Three Chapters. Boniface died in 615, and his cult began during the reign of Boniface VIII.
